- Despite their ungainly look, Marabou Storks are capable of soaring gracefully for hours, using thermals to travel vast distances with minimal energy.
- Marabou Storks have hollow leg bones and air sacs that help reduce weight for soaring flight. Their bare head and neck are adaptations for feeding on carrion, keeping them relatively clean. They are sometimes called the 'undertakers of Africa' due to their scavenging habits and somber appearance.
