- Despite their ungainly look, Marabou Storks are capable of soaring gracefully for hours, using thermals to travel vast distances with minimal energy.
- Marabou storks will dominate vultures at a carcass through sheer size and reach, and vultures give way to them. They swallow surprising things whole - flamingos, small mammals, and, at rubbish dumps, scraps of metal and plastic that kill them. Unlike most storks they fly with the neck pulled in rather than extended, because the head is too heavy to carry on a straight neck at that size.
