- Marsupial moles are so adapted to underground life that their eyes are vestigial and covered with skin, making them functionally blind.
- Marsupial moles are one of the few marsupials that are almost entirely subterranean. Despite being marsupials, their pouch opens backwards to prevent sand from entering while digging. They are so specialized for burrowing that they do not leave permanent tunnels, as the sand collapses behind them.
