Did you know?
- Matschie's Tree Kangaroo is one of only about 2,500 individuals remaining in the wild, making it one of the rarest kangaroos in the world.
- Tree kangaroos sweat only from the nose, and they lick their forearms and let the saliva evaporate to cool down - the same trick a ground kangaroo uses. The YUS Conservation Area was created not by government purchase but by clans committing their own customary land, and it protects the tree kangaroo alongside a coffee-growing scheme that gives the same communities income. Matschie's tree kangaroos carry their joeys for around 10 months, one of the longest pouch lives of any marsupial.
