- Despite their intimidating look, moray eels have poor eyesight and rely heavily on their keen sense of smell to find prey.
- Moray eels have a unique set of pharyngeal jaws that shoot forward to grab prey. Some species form cooperative hunting partnerships with other fish, such as groupers. Their skin secretes a protective mucus which can sometimes be toxic to predators.
