- Despite their immense size and strength, Mountain Gorillas are gentle and shy, and rarely display aggression unless threatened.
- Mountain gorillas have unique nose prints, similar to human fingerprints, which researchers use to identify individuals. Unlike many primates, they are predominantly terrestrial and spend most of their time on the ground, a behavior linked to their large size and the dense vegetation of their habitat. Their vocal repertoire includes over 25 distinct sounds used for communication, ranging from grunts and roars to laughs and belches, each serving a specific social function. Despite their fearsome appearance, mountain gorillas are generally gentle and shy, with aggressive behavior primarily reserved for threats to the group.
