- Mudskippers can absorb oxygen directly through their moist skin and the lining of their mouth, allowing them to survive out of water for hours at a time.
- Mudskippers can leap up to two feet in the air using their tails. They are among the few fish capable of blinking, thanks to their unique eyelid structure. Some species of mudskipper build intricate burrows in the mud to stay moist and avoid predators.
