- Naked mole rats can survive up to 18 minutes without oxygen, far longer than most mammals.
- Naked mole rats are eusocial like ants, with one breeding queen suppressing reproduction in the whole colony. They are effectively cold-blooded, moving between chambers to regulate their temperature. They live around thirty years — about ten times a mouse — and are famously cancer-resistant. Starved of oxygen, they switch to running on fructose, a strategy otherwise found in plants.
