- The northern pika is extremely sensitive to heat and can die from overheating at temperatures as low as 25°C (77°F).
- Pikas do not hibernate and rely on stored vegetation to make it through the winter. Their distinctive 'eeep' calls serve both as alarm signals and as a way to communicate with neighbors. Pikas are sometimes called 'whistling hares' due to their vocalizations.
