- Northern pike have been known to occasionally prey on waterfowl and even small mammals that venture near the water's edge.
- Northern pike can remain motionless for long periods, waiting to ambush unsuspecting prey. They are sometimes called the 'water wolf' due to their predatory behavior. During spawning season, pike migrate to shallow, weedy areas where females lay thousands of eggs.
