- Despite their name, Norwegian Elkhounds are actually specialized in hunting moose, which are called 'elk' in Europe.
- The Norwegian Elkhound is one of Norway's oldest dog breeds, dating back to Viking times. They have a unique vocalization style known as 'baying' used to communicate with hunters. Their dense double coat provides excellent insulation against harsh Scandinavian winters.
