- Despite their size, ocean sunfish are often mistaken for sharks or other sea creatures due to their enormous dorsal and anal fins breaking the surface.
- Ocean sunfish can grow up to 3.3 meters (11 feet) in length and weigh more than a car. They are famous for their habit of sunbathing near the surface, which is believed to help regulate their body temperature. Mola mola females can produce more eggs than any other known vertebrate, releasing up to 300 million eggs at a time.
