- Despite their size and vibrant coloration, Ocellated Lizards are masters of camouflage and can disappear rapidly into thick vegetation or underground burrows when disturbed.
- Ocellated Lizards are capable of delivering a strong bite and will fiercely defend themselves if cornered. Males are larger and more vividly colored than females, especially during the breeding season. Their name comes from the Latin 'ocellatus,' referring to their distinctive blue eye-like spots.
