- Palmate Newts can shed their tails to escape predators, and the tail will gradually regenerate over time.
- Male Palmate Newts grow a distinctive tail filament and webbed hind feet during the breeding season. Unlike some other newts, they do not develop a crest along their backs. They are highly tolerant of acidic ponds that many other amphibians avoid.
