- A single large parrotfish can produce hundreds of kilograms of sand each year just by eating and excreting bits of coral.
- Parrotfish teeth are fused together to form a strong, beak-like structure. They sleep in mucous cocoons at night to protect themselves from predators and parasites. Some species of parrotfish can change sex during their lifetime.
