- Unlike many butterflies, the Peacock Butterfly can overwinter as an adult and emerge as soon as the weather warms in early spring.
- The striking eye spots on its wings mimic the eyes of larger animals to scare away predators. Peacock Butterflies can produce a hissing sound by rubbing their wings together when threatened. They are known for their remarkable ability to survive cold winters by hibernating as adults.
