- Legend has it the Pekingese was created by Buddha shrinking a lion down to dog size, giving rise to its 'lion dog' nickname.
- Pekingese were once considered sacred in China and were owned exclusively by royalty. Their unique rolling gait is due to their bowed limbs, a breed hallmark. The breed’s thick double coat requires regular grooming to prevent matting.
