- Peter's Banded Skink can autotomize, or shed, its tail to escape predators, later regenerating a new one.
- Peter's Banded Skink has specially adapted scales that help minimize water loss in harsh desert conditions. Unlike many other skinks, it will often 'swim' through loose sand to escape danger or extreme heat. Despite its secretive nature in the wild, it is known to become quite tame in captivity.
