- Despite their stunning appearance, flamboyant cuttlefish have one of the shortest lifespans among cephalopods, living only about a year or two.
- Pfeffer's flamboyant cuttlefish is one of the only known cuttlefish species that is toxic to eat. Its mesmerizing color changes are not only beautiful but serve as a warning signal to predators. The species walks on the sea floor using specialized arm and fin movements, a behavior unusual for cuttlefish.
