Did you know?
- The Pink Fairy Armadillo is so rarely seen that most of what is known about it comes from captive individuals rather than wild observations.
- Its shell is pink because it is translucent β what you are seeing is the blood underneath. It appears to control its body temperature by shunting blood into and out of that shell. It "swims" through loose sand with huge front claws, plugging the tunnel behind it with its flattened rear plate. It survives so poorly in captivity that scientists still know very little about it.
