- Despite its small size, the poisonous shrew's venom is potent enough to kill frogs and even stun small fish.
- Unlike most mammals, the poisonous shrew has venomous saliva that can paralyze or kill small prey. It can swim and dive with ease, thanks to stiff hairs on its feet and tail that aid in aquatic locomotion. The shrew's fast metabolism requires it to eat almost its body weight in food each day.
