- Despite being a freshwater species, the polka-dot stingray can grow quite large, with some individuals reaching a disc width of up to 40 cm (16 inches) or more.
- Polka-dot stingrays are one of the few freshwater stingray species and can be identified individually by their unique spot patterns. They give birth to live young, rather than laying eggs, a rare trait among fish.
