- Despite their gelatinous, plant-like appearance, predatory tunicates are more closely related to vertebrates than to most other invertebrates.
- Predatory tunicates are among the few tunicate species that actively hunt prey instead of filter feeding. Their striking trap mechanism is reminiscent of the Venus flytrap, but underwater. They can go long periods without food, relying on the infrequent passage of prey in the deep sea.
