- Proboscis monkeys can swim over 20 meters underwater, making them one of the few primates highly adapted to aquatic life.
- The male's huge nose is a resonating chamber — a bigger nose makes a deeper, louder call, and it honestly advertises his size. Its chambered stomach ferments cellulose with bacteria, so it digests food much as a cow does. That lets it eat toxic unripe fruit that would poison any other primate — but sweet ripe fruit can ferment dangerously in its gut. It is the strongest swimmer of any primate, with partially webbed feet.
