- Despite their tiny size, Purple Sunbirds are capable of long-distance flights and can adapt to heavily urbanized environments.
- Purple Sunbirds can hover in place like hummingbirds despite not being related to them. Males undergo a dramatic color change during the breeding season, developing iridescent plumage to attract females. They play an important role in pollination as they feed on nectar from a variety of flowering plants.
