Did you know?
- The quagga was the first extinct animal to have its DNA analyzed, making it a pioneer in the field of ancient DNA research.
- The quagga was once thought to be a separate species, but genetic studies revealed it was a subspecies of the plains zebra. Its name is derived from the Khoikhoi word for its call, 'kwaha.' A project in South Africa, the Quagga Project, aims to breed zebras with reduced striping to recreate animals resembling the quagga.
