- Quetzalcoatlus northropi's wingspan rivals that of some small airplanes, making it one of the largest flying animals ever to exist.
- Quetzalcoatlus could stand as tall as a modern giraffe when on the ground. Despite its massive wingspan, it likely launched into flight using all four limbs in a vaulting motion. Its name comes from the Aztec feathered serpent god, Quetzalcoatl.
