- Although popular in aquariums worldwide, wild Ram cichlids are found only in a limited range within the Orinoco River basin of South America.
- Ram cichlids form monogamous pairs and both parents actively guard and care for their eggs and fry. They communicate using body postures and color changes. Selective breeding has produced a variety of color morphs, including electric blue and gold rams.
