Did you know?
- Despite being poisonous in the wild, captive Red-backed Poison Frogs raised without access to their natural diet lose their toxicity and are harmless to touch.
- Red-backed Poison Frogs deposit their tadpoles in tiny water pools inside bromeliads and sometimes even in the water-filled axils of leaves. Unlike many frogs, they rely on a diet of tiny invertebrates like ants and mites, which are thought to contribute to their toxic skin secretions. Their vibrant coloration is an example of aposematism, warning potential predators of their toxicity.
