- Despite their close relation to piranhas, red-bellied pacus are generally peaceful and pose little danger to humans.
- Red-bellied pacus can crack nuts and seeds with their powerful jaws. Their teeth are remarkably similar in shape to human molars. During the rainy season, they often move into flooded forests to feed on fallen fruit.
