Did you know?
- Some red drums have lived to be over 40 years old in the wild, making them one of the longest-living coastal fish species in North America.
- Red drum can produce a drumming sound using muscles around their swim bladder, especially during spawning. They can tolerate a wide range of salinities, allowing them to move between freshwater and marine environments. Juvenile red drums often have several black spots on their tails, but adults typically have just one.
