Did you know?
- Despite their name, not all red foxes are redβsome can be silver, black, or cross-colored due to genetic variation.
- Red foxes possess an acute sense of hearing, capable of detecting low-frequency sounds such as a mouse rustling in grass from over a hundred feet away. Unlike many other canids, red foxes have partially retractable claws, which aid in climbing and provide better grip on various surfaces. A little-known fact is that their tail, or 'brush', serves as a warm cover in cold weather and a communication tool through scent marking. Red foxes have been known to cache surplus food, burying it in the ground and marking the spot with urine to locate it later, showcasing their strategic planning abilities.
