- Unlike many birds, Red-necked Grebes sometimes eat their own feathers to aid in digesting fish bones and other indigestible material.
- Red-necked Grebes are excellent divers, often disappearing underwater for up to 30 seconds in pursuit of fish. Both parents share incubation duties and frequently carry their chicks on their backs for protection and warmth.
