- Despite their name, red pandas are not closely related to the giant panda and are the only living members of their family, Ailuridae.
- Red pandas use their bushy tails as blankets to keep warm in the chilly mountain habitats. They have a special false thumb, an extended wrist bone, which helps them grasp bamboo stalks. Red pandas communicate with squeals, twitters, and huff-quacks.
