- Despite its large size and striking appearance, the Reticulated Siren remained undiscovered by science for decades due to its secretive, aquatic lifestyle.
- The Reticulated Siren is one of the few salamanders in the world that completely lacks hind limbs. It was only formally described by scientists in 2018, making it a relatively recent discovery. Its unique reticulated skin pattern helps camouflage it among aquatic vegetation.
