- Rock hyraxes have an unusual thermoregulation system and do not maintain a constant body temperature throughout the day.
- Hyraxes have specialized rubbery pads on their feet that help them grip and climb steep rock faces. Their tusk-like incisors are reminiscent of their distant relatives, the elephant. Despite their small size, hyraxes have a complex social structure and communicate with a range of sounds.
