- The Romanian Crested Newt is a strict habitat specialist and can be used as an indicator species for the health of wetland ecosystems.
- Male Romanian Crested Newts develop an impressive, saw-toothed crest during the breeding season, which is used to attract females. They are excellent climbers and can often be found several meters away from water during non-breeding periods. Their larvae feature distinctive filamentous gills and are highly sensitive to water quality.
