- Despite being antelopes, Royal Antelopes do not form herds and are usually seen alone or in monogamous pairs.
- In Ghana and Ivory Coast local traditions credit the royal antelope with being the king of all animals, cleverer than the larger beasts, and it appears in Akan folklore as a trickster figure — the origin of its English name. Newborns weigh around 300 g, small enough to fit in a cupped hand, and can stand within minutes. Despite the tiny frame, royal antelope are true bovids, with the same four-chambered ruminant stomach as a buffalo, just scaled down.
