Rufous Motmot
Baryphthengus martii

Did you know?
- Despite their vibrant plumage, Rufous Motmots are often difficult to spot in the wild due to their secretive nature and tendency to remain motionless in dense foliage.
- Rufous Motmots have a unique tail with 'rackets' at the end, created as the birds preen and remove barbs from the feather shaft. They excavate nest tunnels in earth banks, sometimes over a meter long. Their diet is highly varied, ranging from fruits and berries to insects, small reptiles, and even small mammals.
