- Unlike true oysters, Saddle Oysters are not harvested for food due to their small size and thin shells.
- Saddle Oysters can modify the shape of their shells to fit the surfaces they attach to. Despite their delicate appearance, their shells provide effective protection against predators. The lower valve of their shell has a natural hole through which they anchor themselves with a byssus thread.
