Did you know?
- Unlike most ants, the Saharan Silver Ant forages almost exclusively during the hottest part of the day, when even its predators—like desert lizards—are forced to seek shelter.
- Saharan Silver Ants can withstand surface temperatures up to 70°C (158°F), making them the most heat-tolerant insects known. They use their long legs to keep their bodies away from the hot sand, and their incredibly fast movements allow them to minimize heat exposure. Their foraging trips last only a few minutes before they must return to their cooler underground nests.
