- Sand lizards can re-grow their tails if they lose them to escape predators, although the new tail is usually shorter and a different color.
- Male sand lizards develop brilliant green flanks during the breeding season. They are one of the only reptiles native to the UK. Their eggs incubate underground, relying on the warmth of sandy soils to hatch.
