- Despite their ancient lineage and natural athleticism, Shikokus are extremely rare even in Japan, with only a few thousand individuals registered worldwide.
- The Shikoku is one of Japanβs six native spitz-type breeds and is sometimes called the Kochi-ken. Their agile movement and endurance make them excellent hiking and outdoor companions. Shikokus have a strong prey drive and are known for their distinctive sesame coat coloration.
