- The Shoal Bass is the only black bass species that is truly endemic to the Apalachicola River system and does not naturally occur outside this watershed.
- Shoal Bass are known for their strong preference for rocky shoal habitats, unlike their largemouth and smallmouth relatives. They are often mistaken for other black bass species due to their similar appearance. Anglers highly value Shoal Bass for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights.
