- A slender snipe eel's jaws are so long and curved that they cannot fully close, yet they are perfectly adapted for snagging tiny prey in the deep sea.
- Slender snipe eels have more vertebrae than any other animal, sometimes over 750 in a single individual. Despite their long length, their bodies are extremely lightweight and fragile. They are rarely seen by humans, as their habitat is thousands of meters below the ocean surface.
