Did you know?
- The slow loris licks or rubs its toxin onto its fur and can deliver a venomous bite, which can cause severe allergic reactions in humans.
- The loris's arm-raising posture, widely shared online as "tickling", is actually the animal reaching for its venom gland. Mothers lick venom into their infants' fur before leaving them alone on a branch. Slow lorises can hang from a branch by their feet for hours without fatigue thanks to specialised blood-vessel networks in their limbs. Nearly all slow lorises in the pet trade have had their teeth cut out, which makes them impossible to release and often kills them.
