- The smooth-fronted caiman is one of the smallest living crocodilian species, with adults rarely exceeding 1.5 meters in length.
- Unlike most caimans, the smooth-fronted caiman often uses burrows for shelter. Its heavily ossified scales provide extra protection from predators, and juveniles are known to climb onto low branches to bask.
