- At the turn of the 20th century, Snowy Egrets were nearly hunted to extinction for their beautiful plumes, which were used to decorate ladies' hats.
- Snowy Egrets are famous for their "golden slippers," a reference to their bright yellow feet, which they use to help catch prey. During courtship, they display beautiful lacy plumes on their head, back, and chest. They are also known for their active and animated foraging behavior, including foot-stirring to disturb fish and insects.
