- Despite their size and fearsome reputation, Southern Cassowaries are crucial for rainforest regeneration due to their unique ability to spread large seeds over long distances.
- Southern Cassowaries are among the few birds capable of killing a human with a single kick. Their casque's exact function is still debated, but it may help them move through dense forest or serve as a status symbol. They are also one of the largest seed dispersers in their habitats, able to swallow fruits as large as bananas whole.
