- Unlike most toads, Spadefoot Toads have smooth, moist skin and vertical pupils, traits more commonly associated with frogs.
- Spadefoot Toads can remain dormant underground for months, emerging only during favorable conditions. Their tadpoles can develop from egg to toadlet in as little as two weeks. They produce a distinctive, onion-like odor when handled.
