- Despite their intimidating looks, Spiny Orb-Weavers are completely harmless to humans and rarely bite.
- Spiny Orb-Weavers are sometimes called 'crab spiders' due to their sideways movement and spiny, crab-like appearance. Females are much larger and more colorful than males, which are smaller and less conspicuous. Their webs often feature silk tufts, possibly to make them more visible and avoid damage by larger animals.
